In order to maintain fairness and consistency in our tournaments, we are rolling out a Transfer Block system across all competitions. This key update will influence how clubs approach player registrations, especially as tournaments progress to their pivotal stages. Let’s explore the details of this new rule.
What is the transfer block?
After a certain date in each tournament, clubs cannot sign new players because of the Transfer Block rule. Any player added after this deadline won’t be able to play in the tournament matchday. This system helps maintain consistency and fair competition, making sure that teams are justly rewarded for their efforts during the tournament.
Why the transfer block is necessary?
The Transfer Block has been implemented for three key reasons:
- Preventing Last-Minute Roster Changes: Some clubs have been making significant player changes right before critical matches, giving them an unfair advantage. Teams that play against these clubs are put at a disadvantage, which upsets the balance of the tournament.
- Respecting the Players Who Got Teams to Crucial Stages: Often, The players who helped their teams advance to the tournament’s final stages are sometimes excluded when new players are added. This is unfair to the original squad members who contributed to the team’s success. The Transfer Block makes sure that the players who contributed to their clubs success are not forgotten.
- Preventing Academy Players to participate in main team matchday: Academy players are restricted from playing in main team matchdays during transfer block periods. This encourages clubs to register their top players directly in the main team and promotes the organic growth of talent by requiring Academy players to earn their spot through promotion.
How the Transfer Block Works?
- Each tournament will have its own block date, announced by the COBEG Tournament Management Panel. Once the block is in effect, clubs must finalize their squads before this date.
- Players registered after the block date will not be eligible to play in that tournament, though they can participate in other tournaments that follow different block dates.
- Registering a player under Contract Termination by paying a fee does not override transfer blocks. Any player added after the block date will remain ineligible for that tournament, regardless of their contract status.
- The COBEG Tournament Management Panel holds the authority to add, remove, or adjust the Transfer Block, which can be applied as early as the first round or as late as the final round, or even skipped entirely, based on the panel’s evaluation of tournament stages.
How is the Registration Date Determined?
The registration date is counted from the moment a player is submitted in the club information database. This timestamp serves as the official record for determining eligibility based on the Transfer Block regulations.
Warning: Reregistering a player will create a new registration date, making that player ineligible to participate in the tournament, even if they have been with the team for an extended period.
